I do not rely upon only one online tool to keep in touch with my PLN. I mostly use Twitter, but sometimes I utilize blogs, Facebook, and Pinterest. There are a variety of ways to connect and you can easily find a tool that best suits your needs. Some members of my PLN offer a multitude of modes of connection, but it is not necessary to utilize all of the suggested options. I follow everyone on this list and a few of them follow me, which means that I am part of their PLN as well. Do not be discouraged if some people that you follow do not reciprocate. They may decide to follow you if you reach out to them or if they like what you post or share. You will gain more followers on social networks as you become more prolific with your posting and sharing.
Educators & Professionals in my PLN:
Tony Vincent
App creator, blogger, one-to-one device enthusiast
I started following Tony's blog in 2010 when I was given a class set of iPod Touches. He offered advice and information for navigating the one-to-one world of teaching, with a focus on iPods. I was able to meet Tony at his Mobile Learning Experience in Phoenix, Arizona in April, 2011. I learned about creating teacher mobile sites through him and was later featured on his blog for my use of the site and to share the iPod apps my students liked best. Besides reading his blog, I also follow him on Twitter.
Stephanie Harvey
Author, educator, reading and thinking enthusiast
I first learned about Stephanie in 2009 when she came to my school to teach us about inquiry. I was then given the opportunity to attend her Reading is Thinking Institute in June, 2009 in Denver, Colorado. A highlight of my career came in May 2010 when she taught a model lesson in my classroom. I enjoy teaching lessons from her Comprehension Toolkit each year and I refer often to her many other books.
